Yamaha have taken the wraps off their
2012 YZR-M1 MotoGP racebike. This is the new prototype bike that Yamaha
hopes will claim back the MotoGP world title from rivals Honda in 2012.
Yamaha factory riders Ben Spies and former world champion Jorge Lorenzo
will race in this Moto Grand Prix season.
Yamaha confirmed that the engine is a
full 1000cc producing around 240hp (176kW) at the crankshaft. However
there can be little doubt that the new M1 will be blisteringly quick,
and 220+ mph speed trap times are already being pondered for fast tracks
like Mugello. Anyhow, the 157kg Yamaha YZR-M1 race bike is rumored to
be one of the quickest bikes in a straight line in 2012.
